TCT had planned to do streaming classes in the spring, but they were pushed back due to the COVID 19 pandemic. As we move into mid-summer it is unlikely that “in person” streaming classes will be able to take place. So, we have created a series of videos that outline the steps for streaming with TCT Nu-Stream/View Local. The videos also talk about other things customers will need to consider, like increased internet speed, router interference, choosing a streaming device and how to subscribe to additional channels that are not part of the Nu-Stream/View Local package. You can tune into Channel 2 at 12 noon and 10:30 pm to watch our “How to Stream” videos, which will help you understand more about how to stream and the benefits of streaming, or you may visit our website at https://tctelco.net/tct-nu-stream/  and click on the “How to Stream” video links.

What is the Difference Between Streaming TV and Traditional TV?

TCT offers 2 live TV options. Our traditional cable service, Nu-Vision, which is delivered via Set Top Box and Nu-Stream/View Local, which is delivered via streaming device using an internet connection.

With Nu-Vision you use your TCTTV remote to change channels, scan the online guide, pause, forward, DVR and more. Changing channels with Nu-Vision is seamless, you can go from channel to channel in seconds. Nu-Vision also has a predetermined set of channels that TCTTV is required by content providers to include in programing packages. Some are channels you want to watch, and some you may never watch, but because of contractual requirements TCTTV must include these channels.

Nu-Stream/View Local uses a streaming device remote to toggle from channel to channel or app to app. You receive only the local network channels for your area of Topeka or Wichita, based on your county of residence, and a few additional channels. There is no DVR feature with Nu-Stream/View Local.  Switching from channel to channel with Nu-Stream/View Local is different than Nu-Vision, each channel must load the channel or app prior to showing the video.

What do You Need to Stream?

INTERNET – To stream you must have internet. The internet speed you will need will depend on how many TVs you plan to stream to at one time. Streaming video takes much more bandwidth or speed than surfing the web.

STREAMING DEVICE- You will need to have a streaming device to access content and play it on your TV. TCT sells these devices and can help you choose the one that is right for you.

HDMI PORT ON TV – You will need to make sure your TV has an HDMI port. You can locate the HDMI port on the back of your TV. Most newer TVs have one or more HDMI ports. You will use this port to plug in your streaming device.

COMPUTER, TABLET OR SMART PHONE- You will need access to a computer, tablet, or smart phone to set-up your streaming device account and streaming service account. The video will explain how to do this in more detail.
